When We Collided by Emery Lord

when we collidedTJ Burns, July 12, 2016

When We Collided was beautiful! I absolutely loved it!

I cried during some scenes, laughed during others — I was genuinely interested, entertained, and often uplifted throughout the entire book.

The writing is amazing! The writing is descriptive and the two points of view are distinct, using different style, vocabulary, and clearly coming from different perspectives. That’s refreshing.

I was fascinated by the characters and their fates, even the supporting characters. Each one has his/her story — and I was given a glimpse into all of them.

Vivi is fun. Really fun. A far cry from the brooding, socially-inept, suicidal or homicidal main characters I’ve been running into in my YA reading. But although there is more to her back story than initially meets the eye, she is a refreshingly positive character.

And Jonah is a really good guy with a lot on his plate. But although he has a lot to deal with, he’s doing an amazing job in meeting the day-to-day challenges that are flung at him.

I really really really liked the dynamic between the two main characters, Vivi and Jonah. Vivi and Jonah clearly helped bump each other’s planets back into orbit — I love the metaphor (and the title)!

Wonderful story, interesting characters, beautiful writing!
